ok well im going to build a good future for myself whether i like it or not
The previous post got me thinking about the art history nun. I hope that your childhoods were also influenced by the art history nun. I hope that you’re able to look at art with an assessing eye, not missing the artist’s intentions nor such subtleties as the GREAT BLACK BALLS OF MALE FURY -!
^ link leads to a 10-video course of study in which a small, weird, enthusiastic old nun discusses the nature of humanity through the vigorous consumption of art. Sister Wendy Renaissance let’s go
Ok I did not realize that the GREAT BLACK BALLS part IS HER ACTUAL WORDS and in fact cuts off before the words EROTIC FURY come out of her mouth.
The 90s were a different fucking time.
What they try to bury here is that people uninstalled to switch to better adblockers that actually work to block youtubes bullshit
They also neglected to mention that people like me too lazy to make the switch from Google Chrome to Firefox had now made the leap based on this last minor inconvenience. So good job losing users for your other products Google.

So is Hermeticism gnostic? I feel silly for not being able to answer this myself, but I've seen it described as such by various sources but not by others. But "gnostic" is such a wastebasket taxon I'm not sure if listing it among like, manichaeism or valentinianism makes sense or not you know. Do you think there are key features that are missing/present?
"They’re very similar, and they influenced each other. Some Hermetic writers have Gnostic influences, and some Gnostic writers have Hermetic influences.
The biggest difference, imo, is the character of God. The Gnostics cast God as a malicious demiurge who made the world as a prison, and the Hermetics think god did a pretty good job. They think god is alright.
The other big difference is the knowability of God. The Hermetics hold that God is comprehensible with enough preparation, and the Gnostics hold that God is unknowable, but can be experienced in a mystical sense.
See, I would consider Hermeticism, Gnosticism, and Manichaeism to all be different categories. But I would say that Valentinianism is gnostic.
I’ve found it useful to consider Gnosticism a spectrum. When it comes to the more christian flavored sects, I tend to look at how salvation can be achieved. If your sect believes that salvation can be gained through knowledge alone, rather than faith, you’re more on the gnostic end of things.

hate being the generation that remembers no ads on YouTube & the annoyance when we first saw 1 ad every 10 videos, then 1 every 5 videos, then on every video, then multiple ads within a single video, only for YouTube to market paying for Premium™️ to ‘get rid of ads!’ which weren’t even there at the start
I hate being the generation that remembers when I could easily find episodes of anime and whole ass movies on YouTube.
Hate being the generation that remembers when YouTube videos would buffer when you pause them, allowing the entire video to load and let you watch it without interruption even on slow connections.
